Born on September 28, 1987, in Houston, Texas, Hilary Erhard Duff is the daughter of Robert Erhard Duff, a partner in a chain of convenience stores, and Susan Colleen Duff (née Cobb), a homemaker turned film and music producer. Hilary has an older sister named Haylie. With encouragement from their mother, both Hilary and her sister immersed themselves in acting, singing, and ballet classes. The siblings successfully secured roles in local theater productions and later took part in a touring BalletMet production of The Nutcracker in San Antonio.
