In 2001, it was officially confirmed that Duff entered into a relationship with fellow teen star Aaron Carter. This romantic involvement drew significant media attention, fueled by reports of a love triangle involving Duff, Carter, and actress Lindsay Lohan. Their on-again-off-again relationship spanned three years before reaching its conclusion. Subsequently, in July 2004, at the age of 16, Duff initiated a romantic involvement with Joel Madden, the lead singer of Good Charlotte, who was then 25 years old. In 2007, Duff commenced a relationship with Canadian National Hockey League (NHL) player Mike Comrie. The couple announced their engagement in February 2010 and exchanged vows on August 14, 2010, in Santa Barbara, California. in February 2015, Duff filed for divorce from Comrie, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking primary physical and legal joint child custody. The divorce reached its finalization in February 2016.

Following her split from Comrie, Duff dated personal sports trainer Jason Walsh from August 2015 until November 2016. During a brief hiatus in her relationship with Matthew Koma in the summer of 2017, she had a short-lived involvement with businessman Ely Sandvik.

Duff officially began dating singer-songwriter Matthew Koma in January 2017. The couple announced their engagement in May 2019 and subsequently tied the knot on December 21, 2019.

The first season received mixed reviews, and Hulu renewed it for a 20-episode second season in February 2022. However, the series was canceled in September 2023.

In addition to her entertainment career, Duff ventured into business collaborations, including designing a romper collection with Smash + Tess in 2021 and becoming Chief Mom Officer of Carter’s children’s apparel company in 2022.
