At the age of 12, Thomas moved to Launceston, Tasmania, and commenced his Australian rules football journey with the Prospect Hawks, later joining the North Launceston Bombers.
In 2016, Thomas achieved a remarkable feat by being named Tasmania’s top under-16 and under-18 player at their respective national championships in the same year. He was subsequently drafted by North Melbourne as their first pick and the eighth overall in the 2018 national draft, having been part of North’s Next Generation Academy (NGA).
