In his recently released Netflix special, “Pete Davidson: Turbo Fonzarelli,” the comedian disclosed attending the 2018 memorial service of soul legend Aretha Franklin while under the influence of ketamine. Ketamine, classified as a dissociative anesthetic with hallucinogenic effects by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, alters perception, creating a sense of painlessness and a feeling of being disconnected from one’s surroundings.
“It’s embarrassing when you’re not on ketamine anymore, though,” Davidson said. “I’m embarrassed. I was out and about like that. That’s not cool, you know?”
