The 2019–20 season saw Kilde claim the World Cup overall title following Marcel Hirscher’s retirement, winning eight consecutive races. Despite triumphing in two races in Val Gardena in December 2020, he was unable to defend the title due to a season-ending injury in January.

He clinched the Super-G globe for the second time and also earned his first Downhill globe. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde’s Season Ends after Wengen Downhill Crash
Norwegian skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde’s season has come to an end after he suffered shoulder and leg injuries in a crash near the finish of a World Cup downhill in Wengen, Switzerland. The incident resulted in a dislocated shoulder and a cut in his calf, leading to surgery in Bern on the same day, as reported by Norway’s skiing federation.
Fortunately, there were no fractures, but Kilde is bruised. The team’s doctor, Marc Jacob Strauss, assured that Kilde is in good hands at the hospital in Bern. A social media post from Kilde on Sunday morning depicted him recovering in a hospital bed, with his partner Mikaela Shiffrin by his side.
“I’m here (and being taken care of by the one and only @mikaelashiffrin ❤)…patched up…thank you so much for all of the messages,” it read. “I’m grateful for all the words of love and support. This sport can be brutal, but I still love it.”
Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, the world’s leading downhill skier in the past two seasons, had a dramatic fall near the finish line during a World Cup downhill race in Wengen, Switzerland. He slid into safety netting, bounced off it, and continued sliding until reaching the finish line. Despite the accident, Kilde sat up, and support personnel quickly came to his aid.
After placing a small strapping around his right leg, a helicopter was dispatched to transport him from the venue, a common practice in Alpine skiing to swiftly transport injured athletes to nearby hospitals for further medical attention.
