Career
Ziebell was a teammate of fellow draftee Steele Side bottom during their time at the Murray Bushrangers. He played a significant role in the Bushrangers’ 2008 premiership victory, averaging 18 possessions, two goals, and six marks per match. Ziebell also represented Vic Country at the 2008 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships, earning All-Australian Honours with an average of 17 disposals per match.

AFL Career
In his debut year at the club in 2009, Ziebell quickly left his mark, showcasing his immediate impact. His consistent and impressive performances during the initial two months led to him earning the Round 7 NAB Rising Star nomination. Notably, he recorded 23 disposals and scored a goal against Port Adelaide. North Melbourne’s coach at the time, Danielle Laidley, publicly lauded him during a post-match press conference, labeling him a “leader” and a potential “superstar.” During the same season, Ziebell encountered a series of minor injuries that limited his contributions in the following weeks. Unfortunately, his season took a downturn when he suffered a leg fracture in round 12 against the Adelaide Crows.
In the later stages of the 2011 season, Ziebell faced a three-match suspension due to rough conduct against St Kilda’s captain, Nick Riewoldt. Interestingly, this incident was featured in the AFL’s official advertising campaign for the 2012 AFL season.
In a significant move, Ziebell was appointed as North Melbourne’s new captain in December 2016, succeeding Andrew Swallow. His leadership tenure spanned six years, until he stepped down before the commencement of the 2023 season.
On July 28, 2023, Ziebell publicly announced his decision to retire from AFL at the conclusion of the 2023 season. His retirement became official during the second-to-last round of that year, as he played his final match against the Richmond Tigers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
