Possible Involvement of Matt Petgrave in Adam Johnson’s Death
On Tuesday, authorities in the U.K. disclosed that a person has been arrested in connection with the demise of Adam Johnson, a 29-year-old hockey player hailing from Hibbing, Minnesota. Although the officials have not officially verified the suspect’s identity, it is known that the skater involved in the incident where Adam Johnson’s neck was cut during a game last month is Matt Petgrave.
Last month, Adam Johnson suffered a throat injury from an opposing player’s skate during an Elite Ice Hockey League game between the Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers. On Tuesday, 17 days after the incident, an arrest was announced by South Yorkshire Police, although the individual was not identified. The assumption is that the arrested person is likely Sheffield hockey player Matt Petgrave, whose skate struck Johnson on October 28.
The disturbing incident, captured on video, showed Johnson falling to the ice and attempting to skate to the bench while holding his neck. The ice was covered in blood, and Johnson was later pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital. South Yorkshire Police Detective Chief Superintendent Becs Horsfall stated in a press release, “Our investigation launched immediately following this tragedy, and we have been carrying out extensive enquiries ever since to piece together the events which led to the loss of Adam in these unprecedented circumstances.”
“We’ve consulted with highly specialized experts in our investigation and are collaborating closely with the health and safety department at Sheffield City Council to support our ongoing efforts.
Adam’s passing has deeply impacted various communities, from local residents in Sheffield to ice hockey enthusiasts worldwide. We understand the expectation for a thorough, professional, and sensitive handling of this investigation. We kindly urge the public to refrain from commenting and speculating, as it could impede our process. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic incident as we press on with our inquiries.”
