After a brief hiatus in the 10th grade, Leto decided to recommit to his education, attending the private Emerson Preparatory School in Washington, D.C. His interest in large-scale visual art led him to enroll at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Subsequently, he developed a passion for filmmaking and transferred to the School of Visual Arts in New York City. During his time as a student, he wrote and starred in his own short film, Crying Joy, and also attended the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design, now part of George Washington University.
