At the age of 14, he made a significant move to Manchester City in March 2015, initially costing £66,000 as part of the Elite Player Performance Plan, with potential add-ons taking the deal to £500,000. Sancho’s outstanding performances continued within the City academy, and in May 2017, City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak identified him as one of three players on a fast track to the senior squad.
On August 31, 2017, Sancho completed a transfer to Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga, with the reported fee hovering around £8 million. He was promptly integrated into the first-team squad.
