Career
Collins attended South Plantation High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, participating as a letterman in various sports including football, basketball, lacrosse, and track. Under the guidance of coach Doug Gatewood, he was named Broward County Player of the Year during his junior year, amassing impressive stats of 1,786 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns. His team secured playoff berths with seven wins.
On January 10, 2016, Collins communicated his decision to forego his senior year and enter the 2016 NFL Draft through an open letter to Arkansas supporters. His draft projections placed him as a potential third-round selection.
In May 2016, Collins signed a four-year deal worth $2.2 million with a $184,000 bonus. During training camp, he competed for the starting running back role against other players like Thomas Rawls and Christine Michael. While Rawls and Prosise were sidelined due to injuries, Collins had a chance to shine. However, he ended up as the fourth running back on the depth chart after a somewhat average preseason.
Collins faced competition for the starting running back position during training camp. The Seahawks reportedly considered trading him due to a crowded backfield. He was waived by the Seahawks on September 2, 2017.
Baltimore Ravens
Shortly after his release, Collins joined the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster on September 16, 2017, and went on to become a significant part of the Ravens’ offense during the season.
Collins continued his role as the Ravens’ starting running back in 2018, but injuries limited his performance. He was placed on injured reserve in December 2018 due to a foot injury. In 2019, he faced legal issues and a suspension from the NFL.
Collins returned to the Seahawks for a brief second stint in 2020, making appearances in several games and even scoring a touchdown.
In 2021, Collins re-signed with the Seahawks and had a productive season, recording over 400 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
He later joined the Memphis Showboats of the United States Football League (USFL) in 2023 but was placed on the injured reserve list.
Cause of Death
On the evening of August 13, 2023, Collins was killed in a high-speed collision in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, when his motorcycle crashed into the rear passenger side of an SUV. It was later reported that he likely died instantly after being pronounced dead at the scene.
