Cooper showcased his skills on the 7-on-7 circuit at various college campuses before entering his senior season.

As a consensus four-star prospect, he earned accolades, being ranked 45th in the Rivals100 and considered the sixth-best wide receiver and eighth overall player in Florida by Rivals.com. ESPNU positioned him as the nation’s seventh-best wideout and 46th overall prospect in the ESPNU 150. He also held rankings of 25th in the ESPNU Southeast Top 100 and 12th in Florida.

Upon joining Alabama as a freshman, Cooper played in all 14 games, starting the final nine, and led the team with 59 receptions, totaling 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns. In his sophomore year (2013), he played in 12 games with seven starts, amassing 45 receptions for a team-high 736 yards and four touchdowns, despite missing two games due to injury.

During his junior season in 2014, Cooper set numerous single-season and career records for Alabama. Notably, he broke the single-game receiving yards record against Tennessee with 224 yards, later matching the record against Auburn. His remarkable season included 124 receptions for 1,727 yards and 16 touchdowns, establishing new school records.

As one of the standout wide receivers in the 2015 draft class, Cooper, along with Kevin White, was highly regarded. Most mock drafts projected him as a top-10 pick, with some even placing him as high as the fourth pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

The Oakland Raiders drafted Cooper in the first round as the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. On December 20, 2015, he achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first rookie in franchise history to surpass the 1,000-yard mark. He was also the sole receiver in the club to achieve this feat since Randy Moss in 2005.

Browns’ Amari Cooper, Inactive in Playoff Quest against Jets

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Amari Cooper won’t be participating in Thursday night’s game against the New York Jets due to a heel injury sustained in his exceptional performance last week, setting a team record with 265 receiving yards against the Houston Texans.

The Browns, currently at a 10-5 record, have the opportunity to secure a playoff spot with a victory. However, they’ll be facing this challenge without Cooper, who, despite being initially listed as questionable and expected to play, was ultimately rested by the Browns after warming up two hours before kickoff on a short week.

Cooper, 29, had an impressive game last week with 11 catches and two touchdowns, marking the first time in Cleveland history a player achieved back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. Notably, he played the final month of the previous season with a core muscle injury that required offseason surgery. His season statistics include 72 catches for 1,250 yards and five touchdowns.

In addition to Cooper, the Browns will also be without their starting kicker and punter. Dustin Hopkins, the NFL’s most accurate kicker this season, is ruled out with a left hamstring injury. Punter Corey Bojorquez is also inactive due to a quadriceps injury sustained in the previous week’s win at Houston. The Browns signed kicker Riley Patterson, recently released by Detroit, to their practice squad earlier this week, and he was elevated to the active roster along with punter Matt Haack, signed on Tuesday, to face the Jets (6-9).

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski mentioned that Hopkins is “week-to-week” with the injury, and there’s uncertainty about his availability for the playoffs.

On the Jets’ side, they are dealing with their own kicking issues, with Greg Zuerlein, who was questionable with a right quadriceps injury, expected to play. Quarterback Trevor Siemian, starting in place of the injured Zach Wilson, will be without receiver Allen Lazard, who is out with an illness. The Jets had previously ruled out offensive tackle Duane Brown (back) and tight end Jeremy Ruckert (concussion) earlier in the week.

Furthermore, the Browns are facing the absence of linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. (knee) and defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo (pectoral), both missing their third consecutive games.
