Influenced by the memorable UFC 103 clash between Rich Franklin and Vitor Belfort, Paddy Pimblett commenced his mixed martial arts training at the age of 15. He joined Next Generation MMA and, inspired by the sport, decided to pursue a professional career shortly thereafter. Making his debut in 2012 at the age of 17, he quickly accumulated a 3–0 record before securing a contract with Cage Warriors a year later.
In 2016, Pimblett claimed the Cage Warriors featherweight championship, triumphing over Johnny Frachey at the Echo Arena in Liverpool. He successfully defended the title once, facing Julian Erosa in a highly controversial unanimous decision. In April 2017, Pimblett lost the featherweight title to Nad Narimani, prompting his move up to the lightweight division.
